let's go

Dive sangalaki marine Heritage park, a hidden indonesian gem!

waves

Scuba dive with manta rays, sharks, turtles, pristine coral, amazing macro and even whale sharks. Diving doesn’t get much better than with Scuba Junkie Sangalaki.

The Triangle Between Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines is one of the most biodiverse marine habitats in the world. Strong ocean currents, deep sea trenches and sea mounts, combined with active volcanic islands have created a complex oceanographic environment that is a paradise for divers. The beauty of this region lies in itʼs diversity. The dive spots and marine life vary from island to island and we recommend every visitor dive at least the main 4 islands (Derawan, Sangalaki, Kakaban and Maratua) in order to fully appreciate what this area has to offer, from manta rays to flamboyant cuttlefish, pygmy sea horses to whale sharks and turtles to schooling barracuda, and so much more. This area has something for all divers and snorkelers.

Based on Derawan island, Scuba Junkie Sangalaki, is an Award Winning PADI 5 Star Centre, with years of experience and who's friendly multi lingual staff look forward to welcoming you to come and dive this amazing divers paradise.

diving sangalaki

Most divers and non divers alike come for the world famous Sangalaki Island. This island is one of the few islands in the world where you can regularly dive and snorkel with manta rays throughout the year! These gentle giants of the sea are amazing to dive/ snorkel with and they seem to really like to interact with humans. Manta Point and the Cleaning Station are must do dive sites if you visit the area!

diving kakaban

Kakaban Island offers vertical wall diving with strong currents and divers can often encounter hammerhead sharks, grey reef sharks, thresher sharks, leopard sharks, white tip reef sharks and 1000s of schooling barracuda and jack fish. During the surface interval we will take you to the fresh water lake inside the island and you can snorkel with the 1000s of stingless jelly fish. There are only a few lakes like this in the world!

diving maratua

Maratua Island offers a variety of different wall dives. Some sites are adrenaline fuelled and have very strong currents and lots of large pelagic action, while others offer gentler drift dives full of pristine coral, amazing visibility and big pelagics coming in from time to time to say hello from the blue. Don’t be surprised if you see leopard sharks, turtles, thresher sharks, grey reefs, eagle rays, devil rays and giant stingray to name but a few…

diving derawan

Derawan Island should really be called Turtle Island as there are literally 100s of Turtles! You don’t even need to dive to see them (you can actually see them from your water bungalow balcony!) Apart from the many turtle encounters you will also have the chance to see some amazing macro such as stone fish, seahorses, flamboyant cuttlefish, blue ring octopus etc as well as some schooling jack fish and some enormous giant clams. We really love diving this island.

whale shark point

Whale Shark Point is the best place in the area in which to snorkel with the awe inspiring Whale Shark! These gigantic gentle sharks come to Whale Shark Point to feed on anchovies. If you are lucky you may get to snorkel with these amazing animals-sometimes our guests have seen up to 8 of these giants at one time! This is an experience of a life time!

For a completely different diving experience, why not come and join us for a night dive in Derawan Island! Night dives are an altogether more intimate experience with the local marine life, as you get to see them hunting and sleeping! All manners of critters such as moray eels, shrimps, cuttlefish and octopus come out to play when the sun sets and we will guide you along for a fascinating dive!

For night dives we meet at the dive centre at 6pm for a dive briefing and get kitted up, ready to start the night dive at 6.30pm. You can book your night dive when you arrive in Derawan. We require a min of 2 people in order to do a night dive.
