You can reach us by flying into one of two airports

• Berau (BEJ) - Daily flights from various airports within Indonesia, most, currently require a connection in Balikpapan. Your flight would need to land by 1pm in Berau if you'd like to reach Derawan on the same day. Transfers are available between Berau airport and our resort on Derawan any day of the week, the journey takes around 3 - 3.5 hours and it costs Rp900,000 for a taxi + boat (cost can be split between up to 3 people).

• Tarakan (TRK) - We run a weekly transfer boat between Tarakan and our resort on Derawan on Tuesdays and Thursdays departing from 11.00am, with the latest possible departure at 12.30pm. The cost of the transfer is between Rp3,500,000 and Rp7,000,000 depending on the number of guests & boat option chosen. This will be split amongst all guests on this transfer- both to and from Derawan (please note we endeavour to book other guests on both routes of this transfer to try and keep your costs down!). If you are wanting to transfer on a day other than a Tuesday or Thursday then we can help arrange a transfer still, though please note this would likely mean your transfer costs will be higher. Alternatively, there is longer route that you can take (see Tawau by ferry route below).

We know it can sometimes be a bit daunting to find the best flight options to get you to Scuba Junkie Sangalaki so please feel free to email us if you have any issues with finding flights, and our booking staff will be more than happy to help you find the possible route suggestions.

Balikpapan

From Balikpapan airport (BPN) there are daily flights to Berau (BEJ)

(**) With these flights you cannot make a direct transfer to Derawan island, you will need to overnight in Berau and transfer to Derawan the next day.

Most domestic Indonesian airlines don't allow foreign credit cards for booking flights, but you can use websites such as Nusa Trip, Tiket and Skyscanner to find portals to book the tickets yourself.

Bali

Bali's Ngurah Rai International airport (DPS) is one of Indonesia's largest hubs, and you can fly from many airports within Indonesia as well as directly from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, as well as China, Japan, Australia and the Middle East.

Travelers coming from Europe can take flights with a stop in the Middle East or KL / Singapore.

Travelers coming from the USA can take flights with a stop in Hong Kong / Tokyo.

From Bali (DPS) you can fly to Berau (BEJ) with a connection at Balikpapan. This route can be flown with either Lion Air/ Wings, or Citilink. You should be able to purchase the journey as one ticket, you just need to change planes. Currently there are no options that allow you to arrive in Berau before 1pm so you will need to consider a night either in Balikpapan or in Berau town itself.

If coming from Scuba Junkie Komodo or Scuba Junkie Penida then plan on one night in Bali before your flight to allow you to take an early flight from Bali.

International Arrivals Into Bali Denpasar (DPS)

Citizens of 10 ASEAN countries are eligible for the Visa Exemption, which grants you a 30 day stay (non extendable).  Foreign travellers from countries other than the 86 listed countries must first apply for a B211A Tourist Visa prior to entering Bali.

Jakarta

From Jakarta you can fly in to Berau (BEJ) with a connection in Balikpapan with Super AirJet, Lion / Wings air or Batik Air (see above Balikpapan options).

There are flights departing early morning from Jakarta that would get you to Berau in time for the transfer over to Derawan on the same day.

Alternatively, you can fly direct with Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur to Balikpapan on Wednesdays and Sundays. This flight currently departs KUL at 9.00am, landing in Balikpapan at 12noon. We recommend spending the night in Balikpapan and taking an early morning flight to Berau the following day.
